Incorporate a Love for Reading Into Your New Home

Looking for a home with a unique space for a space to relax and read is fun and helps you visualize the highlights you desire in a home. Reading and sleeping nooks are a great way to transform an unused space into something everyone will notice right away. When you visit homes with a REALTOR®, look for spaces like closets and lofts that you can convert into a miniature library with lounging area.

A Space for Your Books

If you have a lot of books, floor to ceiling bookshelves are attractive and keep them organized. Use fabric cubes for other things that you need to store. If you turn a closet into a reading nook, make sure to add a few shelves for books that are high and then add a platform bed with drawers or open storage at the bottom of your closet. Line the wall in front of your closet with bookshelves, so it all looks like one thoughtful area.

Decorate the bed with pillows and attach a curtain that is useful for privacy. These reading nook spaces are great for kids, teenagers, and adults who love to lounge in a secluded space.

Small Rooms

If you build your own reading area, you can turn any small space into a reading haven. Under stairs or wide ledges are great places to transform into reading areas. If you find a place with a loft or attic, you can build shelves that work well with short walls and even put your lounging space above your bookshelves. Attach a ladder and rails to a lofted platform with a library underneath.

Large Spaces

A basement or large space above your garage can work for sleeping and book storage. As with all sleeping areas make sure the spaces you create for sleeping follow the rules for fire safety.

You can line the walls with twin beds in alcoves or on platforms and separate them with bookshelves and put drawers under the beds for clothing and other objects. Mood lighting across the ceiling can turn a drab room into something everyone wants to experience.

A large space is wonderful for a bunk style room that serves as a library with plenty of space for guests or children. Highlighting books incorporates natural decor and makes it fun for everyone to explore stories and knowledge before bedtime.

No Space

If you don't have space for a library nook, consider building a lofted library with a bed on top. You can also elevate other furniture and add in shelves below to incorporate shelves where you can. You can create chairs and beds that are built out of shelving, so you sit or sleep in the middle of bookcases! Utilize unique ideas to bring books into any space you choose.

When you consider purchasing a home and want the right space to show off, look for natural nooks and alcoves in the home. If there aren't any optimal spaces, an extra small room or family room can transform into a luxurious library with built-in sections made for relaxation.
