Make Packing and Unpacking Easier With These Tips

Packing and unpacking are two steps you cannot skip during the moving process. They are also tasks that are dreaded by many people who are moving to a new home. The good news is you can make packing and unpacking easier by keeping the following tips in mind.

Tips For Packing

Sort Through Your Belongings: It is best to sort through your belongings before you start packing. The items that are in good condition but never used should be sold, donated or given away. Recycle or discard the items that are stained, expired or broken. When you get rid of unwanted items, you have less to pack and unpack.

Put Your Items Away: Return misplaced items to their designated room before you pack everything. It may seem like an extra step, but you are going to be glad you did it when it is time to unpack. You do not have to worry about finding an item that belongs in your bedroom with your bathroom supplies.

Focus On One Room: It is best to focus on one room at a time when you start packing. You want to start with the rooms you do not use all the time, and do not move to the next room until you have finished packing the current room. Remember to start early to ensure you have enough time to pack everything.

Learn The Packing Techniques: There are many techniques to learn when packing certain items. The techniques range from using smaller boxes for heavy items to packing electronics in their original boxes. Learning the packing techniques is a great way to keep your items safe during the move.

Label Your Boxes By Number: Your new home may not have the same rooms as your current home. It is best to label your boxes by number to avoid any confusion or frustration when it is time to unpack. You can keep track of your items by recording the number and contents of each box.

Tips For Unpacking

Start Unpacking Soon: You do not want to put off unpacking your new home for too long. It is easier to feel at home when you are not surrounded by boxes and bins. Now is a good time to unpack the box you packed for the first week in your new home. This box may include several outfits, bedding, medications and personal care products.

Focus On One Room: Once again, you are going to focus on one room at a time. You do not want to overwhelm yourself when you are already tired from moving. If you find a box that belongs in a different room, place it in the right room without opening it. You can open the box when it is time to unpack that room.

Empty The Box: You do not want to move to the next box until you have emptied the current box. The key is to stay on track so you can finish unpacking the room. Put away as many items from your current box as possible, and place any stray items in a corner or designated box until you have unpacked every room. It is best to start with the essentials in each room before you unpack everything else.

There is a lot of work that comes with moving into a new home. However, you can use the packing and unpacking tips to get through the moving process without feeling too stressed.
