While you're at it, it may well be time for you to do something about the state of your walls. If the paint is peeling or fading, give it a fresh new coat. If the wallpaper was last fashionable in 1972, get a new style that fits in with the general look and feel of the property. Not only will you add resale value to your home, but you will also move more into line with the current fashions in home décor.
